The Elizabethan era lasted from 1558 until 1603, and was obviously the period when Queen Elizabeth I reigned England. This era was the high point of the English Renaissance, and saw a lot of international exploration and expansion, new theater works, and, perhaps most famously, the works of William Shakespeare.

During the Elizabethan era you were given a name when you were baptized. As a result, many names are Christian in origin. But the amount of names used at the time was not incredibly diverse. Men were often named (in order of commonness) John, Thomas, William, Robert, Richard, Edward, Henry, or Edmund. Women were often named Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary, Ann, Agnes, Alice, Doroty, Joan, Katherine, or Bridget. There are plenty of other names too, but they are often far less common, which could be something you might wish to keep in mind.
